Bringing the Science of
Nerve Repair to Life

Company Summary and Mission
AxoGen Inc. seeks to provide surgeons with solutions to repair and protect peripheral nerves. The company has created and licensed a unique combination of patented technologies and has a rich pipeline of new products to change the standard of care for patients with peripheral nerve injuries.

The Company
AxoGen Inc. was founded in 2002 to focus on improving peripheral nerve repair. Peripheral nerves provide the pathway for both motor and sensory signals between the central nervous system and muscles or organs throughout the body. Injuries to nerves impact patients in many ways. A traumatic injury to an arm may result in a loss of strength, movement and muscle mass. The removal of the prostate and the cavernous nerves due to prostate cancer may result in erectile dysfunction and/or incontinence. An injury to the facial nerve can result in the patient losing the ability to smile. Every year, several hundred thousand people suffer traumatic injuries or have surgical procedures which may impact the function of their peripheral nerves. AxoGen is committed to supporting surgeons in improving the standard of care for these patients.

AxoGen has unique knowledge in processing nerve tissue which preserves the three dimensional matrix of the tissue. This knowledge was combined with research from Dr. David Muir, PhD, from the University of Florida McKnight Brain Institute and Dr. Christine Schmidt, PhD, from the University of Texas Austin. AxoGen utilized these technologies to provide the first distributed peripheral nerve repair option which preserves the nerve extracellular matrix from donated allograft tissue.

AxoGen has expanded its tissue portfolio by partnering with Cook Biotech. Their technology preserves the extracellular matrix of porcine small intestine submucosa (SIS). AxoGen utilized their technology to provide peripheral nerve options that either protect or connect nerves through revascularization and remodeling of the tissue.

Based in Alachua, Florida, AxoGen has developed a strong scientific and management team. The company is privately held and has received funding from SynoGen of Gainesville, FL, Emergent Growth Fund of Gainesville, FL, Accuitive Medical Ventures of Atlanta, GA, Cardinal Partners of Princeton, NJ, DeNovo Ventures of Menlo Park, CA, Springboard Capital II, LLC of Jacksonville, FL, The Weldon Foundation of Amelia Island, FL, and Atel Ventures, Inc. of San Francisco, CA. The Company will sustain its competitive market advantage by capitalizing on its experienced and successful management team, its superior technologies and the large potential for expansion and development in this market.
